Create Spaces For Your Kids at Home

There are so many things to be grateful for in the past year, especially the chance to spend more time with your kids. Whether they are currently taking virtual classes, or you and your family are simply spending more time at home, these extra moments with your loved ones are truly a gift.

Now that your kids are home more often, you have the chance to get creative with the rooms in your home. (And if you have been looking for a new interior design project, now is the perfect chance to have some fun!) With a few easy changes, you can turn any open, flexible space into the perfect playroom or classroom.

Storage.

Create a Playroom

Toy Storage: Of course, no playroom is complete without storage for all of the games, art supplies, and stuffed animals that your kids love. Storage options that can be placed against the wall maximize space, while also looking stylish and modern. An ideal sectional has a lot of cubbies or bins for keeping everything organized.

Furniture: Make sure to look for a low table-and-chair set that you know your kids will find comfortable. For added relaxation, a cozy mini sofa, beanbag, daybed, or even large pillow with blankets work great in corners (and are great for encouraging them to read or settle down for naptime).

Chalkboard: A chalkboard wall is a fun addition that lets imaginations run free. Whether you use it together to make homework a little more fun, or they pick up their favorite colors to draw their next greatest art piece, this wall will provide endless hours of entertainment.

Rug: Whether the rug design you choose goes along with a theme or color palette, make sure that it is soft and comfortable (after all, it is going to be holding tiny feet for a long time). Not to mention, a good rug helps with noise as well as keeps the floor in pristine shape.

Wall Art/Wallpaper: If your kids are interested in geography, try a large map decal. Do they love animals and nature? Look for animal prints, an ocean scene, landscapes, etc. And of course, words and numbers are a great way to encourage reading, writing, and new hobbies. Classroom.

Create a Classroom

Work Together: The classroom you create at home does not have to be a replica of a traditional classroom. Work together with your kids to create the room that makes them most comfortable! From lighting to wall art, furniture to storage, it is so much fun to design and decorate this unique space together.

Make a Schedule: One of the best ways to keep your kids on track is to incorporate a written schedule into their classroom. Get creative and fun with a  chalkboard, a whiteboard, posters, a magnet board — you name it! Make sure to include clear-cut times for each class and activity, and situate the schedule in a place where it can always be seen.

Lighting: Good lighting is a key tool for a happy, productive learning environment. If you can, create your classroom in a room that provides natural light. Otherwise, you can find affordable floor lamps, desk lamps, string lights, hanging lanterns, and more that create the perfect glow and ambiance. Want to travel back to yesteryear? Try a fun lava lamp for a colorful vibe!

Outdoor Class: Winter may be around the corner, but there are sure to be some sunny days ahead! When the weather permits, take the classroom outside and enjoy the open space of one of your outdoor living areas. A change of scenery is one of the best ways to inspire your kids and keep them motivated. Incorporate blankets, rugs, pillows, and more for a cozy environment.

Music and Art: As a busy parent, you know all too well how important it is to slow down and relax. Make time in the day for your kids to listen to music and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of an arts and crafts project. Designate an hour or two in their schedule for relaxation time, where you can play themed playlists (holiday, upbeat, calming) while enjoying a creative project (painting, drawing, costume design... the list goes on)!

We hope you enjoy designing and decorating the spaces in your home just as much as your kids enjoy spending time in them! For more information about ournew homes in Dallas/Fort Worthand Houstonplease contact us at 866-409-1949 (DFW) or 866-419-1949 (Houston).
